Imagine if you will, the ultimate bang-for-your-buck fundraiser.

What does it look like, how does it feel and what does it deliver?

Before we enter into our dreamland of the perfect fundraiser, let's reminisce to what a typical fundraising event might look like, feel like and deliver.

(Que dramatic fade in effect...)

The Car Wash 

The first thing to do here is plan the event date (around everyone's busy schedules). Then organize a meeting to create signs and then run around town posting those signs. Next up is the task of recruiting "volunteers."

After that you purchase the supplies. Even if you already have the buckets, hoses, sponges and towels; you still have to get the soap.

Fast forward to car wash day:

You wake up at 6:00, buy donuts for the group, head over to your location and discover that you're short three bodies! You call your sleeping spouse and beg him or her to rush over with the kids to lend a hand.

After that is handled you begin setting up in the parking lot but suddenly notice that there is no spigot within a hundred yards.

After relocating to the back of the building and sending one of the volunteers to dance like a lunatic on the side of the road while holding a giant sign, you finally start receiving cars.

Let's rap up this nightmare and say that at the end of the day you count the money and your tired, dehydrated and sunburned volunteers have managed to make $150. Well, that's close to $20 an hour, give or take. Subtract the cost of soap, Gatorade and pizza and you're group raised $90. Bah humbug.
